I am new to this list and have been researching for 3 months my gr.
grandfather Christian Ziegler. He came to USA (unknown poa) about 1869
according to a census report. I have not been able to locate his
naturalization papers yet. They are not in Monroe Co. NY which is the county
seat for Parma, NY. He married about 1874 to Mary E. Hatch (daughter of
William S. Hatch and Evaline, found on Cayuga, NY 1850 census). They had
William born about 1875 and Bertha born about 1877. I have the information
on him after he left Parma NY 1881 approx. headed for a year or so to
Kearney, NE and then back to Michigan. He bought farm land in Rose Lake
Township, LeRoy, MI, March 1884 and farmed there until his death in 1911.
There is no death record, due to fire and newspaper articles conflict each
other. He came to this country with a skill of grafting fruit trees, thus
staying at Parma, NY which is rich in orchards. I have his tree grafting
tool. Knowing he probably did not come alone or met someone here, I am
looking for any family. I believe his trip to Kearney, NE may have been to
visit family and I have found a Mary Ziegler who lived there in the early
1880's. I am continuing to research any and all of the fruit growing
regions, hoping to locate him from 1869 when he arrived to 1880 when he
showed up in Parma, NY. Anyone out there with any ideas?
Thanks way ahead of time!
