Posted a reply on the Alsace query you left. Saw that you posted family data here, so went
to the online archives and found the marriage record for Joseph and Elisabeth.
Unfortunately this batch of records has lots of problems. Superimposed over the main part
of the marriage record is what looks like the top of the next 2 pages in the book. So alot
of the information is not viewable unfortunately, so you would need to order the civil
marriage records for this time period for 20 Aug 1846 to see the entire entry. As I said
in my other post the LDS have these records on microfilm, that for $8 per roll you can
rent and use for 60 days. Joseph's father was George and he was a weaver. Joseph was
born on the 31st Dec 1819. His mother was Marguerite Moehly.
All of the wife's information is covered unfortunately.
At the top of the next page are the witnesses. One is an uncle of the groom (brother of
mom I would guess), Thiebaut Moehly, 65yrs old.
The civil records only are online. So as you would trace the lines back, you would
ultimately have to order film for the parish records. Civil records for the most part
begin during the French Revolution. The early records during this time use a unique
calendar with dates and months not like any you have seen before. These records will also
be in french too, so more of a challenge if you do not speak the language. The church
records can be in German, French or Latin, or intertwined, plus abbreviations if you
don't think it can get any more challenging!
The online site if you want to take a stab at it is at:
http://www.archives.cg68.fr/
The site is of course also in French. It is the archives for Haut-Rhin, France.

Bonne chance avec votre recherche
