Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
We are located close to St. Louis and are also Zeigler's. Would be happy to share info with you.
The spelling is not an indication of family heritage. In our searching, the Zeigler name is
spelled no less than 3 ways in one legal document. Ziegler, Zeigler or Zigler or Ziglar. This
happened over and over in early census and legal documents. Our Zeigler's came from Germany in the
late 1600. They eventually moved to Ohio, Indiana then Missouri.

The only information about the people we are looking for is that my moms mom was blonde with fair skin. Her father had dark hair, eyes and more of a Greek look. They were in college at the time my mom was placed for adoption, and would be between 60 and 70 now. There's a strong chance her name was Marie/Mary. We are unsure of the spelling of the last name.

Hi Richard,
I'm excited to connect with you and other Ziegler searchers. I am sharing this information with you and a few other Zieglers, so please don't be surprised if you find below information posted three or four times on different discussion boards. The more we share and help others with pieces of the puzzle, the more we will receive some of our own.
My name is Kenneth Leigh Breeze Jr. (son of Kenneth Leigh Breeze and Doris Elisabeth Krause (still alive in Germany) ). My information may not directly relate to your branch of our mutual Ziegler family, but I find it exciting to find new puzzle pieces and tips from anyone in Ancestry.com.
As we are all related, the further we go back, I feel I have found some Ziegler and Breeze family in interesting places. My Zieglers (Edward Evans 'Skipper' Ziegler (1892-1960) married Eva Wemyss Johnson (1894-1988) ) are from Philadelphia, where most of the Germans settled in first, when they arrived in the US. Pictures are available too. The Germans are also the largest demographic in the US. Here's a great link on the Zieglers in general: www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=ziegler
I am trying to trace back these two families in particular. My strongest roots are in Germany, England and France (Huguenots - Wikipedia is a great resource). I'm loosing the trail with Jacob David Ziegler (married Clara Schmoyer), who was born in 1860 in Spring City, PA near the famous Valley Forge (http://places.ancestry.com/Default.aspx?tid=26383894&pid=12280414403&eid=...). At some point they must have come directly or via England from Germany.
When researching, you will find that more German family records are available in the German Bavaria region due to wars and religion: The more catholic (Bavaria) the more they were detailed in keeping records. And wars and religious conflicts (which ultimately drove people to America) were more common in the more central German/Hessen regions, which had an impact on destroying more written evidence.
Here's a great link (http://www.deutsche-auswanderer-datenbank.de/index.php?id=51) for further research. Bremerhaven, where I was born on a military base, was one of the two highest frequented emigration ports in the two major waves in the 1840s and 1900s. The other was Liverpool, where my great grandfather from Barrow in Furness, Ethelbert George Walter Breeze, a mason, finally took the risk to leave it all behind for the dream of a better life. Ancestry and google have teamed up and its great to see where they all came from. I can even zoom in to the Furness Abby where my great grandmother was born (http://g.co/maps/grtq4).
I know, not all of this pertains to your Ziegler branch, but the tips we can share with each other can be valuable. What I miss the most are the stories never told or written or recorded in some way to get more leads to making connections to the relationships our ancestors had. I get stuck often, because of a missing link, that one of my people has married twice, or the other was seeing many women and was therefore not spoken of by the rest of the family. Even back in England the stories get even more interesting or confusing, since men often just left their wives and children without a trace.
If you like I can share my Breeze/Ziegler family tree with you, to perhaps shed more light on your Zieglers. You probably just have to look me up here on Ancestry and you'll find our tree.
Let's stay in touch and explore our pasts together. I can't wait to see the new TV episodes "Who Do You Think You Are", produced by Ancestry. The first season is available on Hulu.com
Regards,
Ken Breeze
