Hi Tom,
Welcome to the list. I don't have any specific information on your Edward
but, If you are new to Ziegenfuss research, I have some advice:
1. The census takers seemed to believe in writing names based on their best
phonetic guess so you need to consider a large number of variations of
Ziegenfus (Zeigenfuss, Ziegenfus,Zeigenfoose, Zicafoose, Zingafuss,
Sigenfuss, Sigafoos, etc.) They probably all started out as Ziegenfuss.
2. If you haven't already found it this is a good site with some
information about the immigrant Ziegenfuss.
http://members.aol.com/rayparsons/zieghist.html
3. If you need lookups on US census Rootsweb has a series of lists where
you can post lookup requests:
PA-CENSUS-LOOKUP-l (or change the first 2 letters for other states.
The 1900 census would be a good start for your Edward since he probably was
still home with his parents. I could also do some lookups for list members
on a time available basis. Unfortunately we just moved and a lot of my
stuff is still in boxes.
4. Rootsweb has some excellent County lists( Bucks, Carbon, etc.) as well
as a PA-DUTCH list.
I am the list admin and can be reached at ZIEGENFUSS-admin(a)rootsweb.com
This list will be a small one so I don't see any need for strict rules. Any
thing pertaining to the Ziegenfuss Surname (or variants) is on topic. Local
culture, religious practices, Town Histories, etc. are also relevant. The
only thing I won't tolerate is flaming or private discussions carried on
list. Take them to private email or, better yet, drop them.
Regards,
Bob

Glad to see this list.
I have Ziegenfuss in my paternal grandmother's line, beginning with Edward
ZIEGENFUSS, born on/about July 22, 1885, purportedly in Philadelphia, PA.
He married Emma MILLER in Philadelphia in 1910 and lived the rest of his
life there.
I have no information on his ZIEGENFUSS parents and do not know if he is
connected to Ziegenfuss elsewhere in Pennsylvania (esp. Lehigh Valley area).
