Dear Graham
Walter was a brother of my grandfather, Harry Zigenbine who, after being rejected from
signing up in the Lighthorse due to the ancestry, became a drover in far west Qld into the
Northern Territory. Walter changed his name by deed poll. Harry was father to Edna Jessup
who became famous as a horsewoman and the first female boss drover in 1954 and lives in Mt
Isa.
A truck driver named Condon I met at a P&O Container depot in Brisbane about 1984 told
me about the name change to Condon.
My sister and I are working on the family history so we would be pleased to hear from you.
You can email at the above address.
As far as I know, the first name used and as recorded at the Pinkenba State School was
Ziggenbine. About 1921, one of the g's was dropped.
Andrew Ziggenbine, the first of the line born in Australia, would be father to Walter.
Hoping to hear from you, Gordon
