Hi List!
I like to keep on this list, as it does seem like everyone is connected
somehow! But the comments about trying to untangle the spelling maze, etc... made
me want to contribute a thought. My male surname line (from my Dad back) is
Arnold. About 18 months ago we started a nonprofit, genetic study of
Arnolds... we now have over 33 participants, and have found many new leads and
understandings about the migration patterns of our families. Part of the Y
chromosome/dna does not change much-- even over many generations... from father to son.
Therefore, connections between lines can be found-- although it is not
specific - to generation, and sometimes tells you no more than "sometime in the last
9 generations you were closely related." However, if there are male
Zickafooses of various spellings out there willing to check it out... it might show
which lines go where. The test is noninvasive -- just a toothbrush like wand,
rubbed on the inner cheek... and you mail it to the lab. There are also
about 4 different companies that can do this kind of genealogical dna study, and
the cost for each test is less than you might think ($100-200).
Technology is amazing, and improving constantly!
