Hi Folks----I am confused, and have been for some time now as to
which
Elizabeth Ann Zickafoose belongs in my line. I am referring to the E.Z. who
married Henry Metzker, outlived him, married Horace Pendleton Larkin,
outlived him, then married James McClure and is buried in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery near Sheridan, Oregon. I have visited this cemetery more than
once, in fact a cousin of mine on our Conner side lives on the original
donation land claim which abuts this cemetery, and have photos of the
gravestone which shows a birth date of 1798 and death date 1866. The
problem is this: is she the dau of Peter Z. & Catherine Hull and born 1789
as per Paul Cox letter-8/1/98----- or was she the dau of Elias Z, & Sarah
Armentrout born 1798, d.1866?
Hi Jim,
I think there has been some misunderstanding of the differernt Elizabeths. I
never suggested that the Elizabeth Zickefoose b. 1789, dau. of Peter and
Catherine was the one married to Henry Metzker, in fact I haven't found any
marriage information for for this Elizabeth.
The birth date on the headstone of 1798, would be the right birthdate for the
Elizabeth Ann Zickefoose who is the dau. of Elias and Susan.
In THIRTY THOUSAND NAMES OF IMMIGRANTS IN
PENNSYLVANIA by Prof. I. Daniel Rupp------Elizabeth Ann Z. dau of George Z.,
and Catherine Lance/Lantz--was born in Greenbriar Co. VA 1802, and died
1866, Sheridan, Oregon. I (along with help from my wife Cork----who has
been knee deep into genealogy for some 25 years) am beginning to think that
our Elizabeth Ann may well be the dau of George rather than Peter, and I am
sure that the birth date on the headstone is correct (moreso than what some
census records say). I am presently waiting for our local library to get the
1835 Farm Census record from Illinois, which may help. This is because of
Henry Metzker --Elizabeth Ann's first husband died then and there and we
have a photo copy of the probate for that event.
Here is the Childern of George and Catherine as I have them.
1.George Jr. b. 1801
2.Benjamin b. 1804
3.Jesse (Jeb) b. 1808
4.Joseph Lewis b. Jun 14, 1816
5.Western Mills Zickefoose b. Nov 14, 1818
6.Sampson b. abt. 1822
This new Elizabeth Ann that Prof. Rupp mentions is very interesting indeed, she
would fit in between George jr. and Benjamin, all though his birth date for her
doesn't fit the one on the headstone in Oregon.
You can get this confusion when the same name is used repeatedly in the same
family, in my Cox surname it is Isaac and Philip that cause the problems.
I will be interesting to see how this all works out, and some more work to do.
Regards,
Paul Cox
