I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sam and Lydia CROWELL which was taken
at
the W. H. F. Heath Studio in Bradford, OH. The photograph appears to have
been taken in the 1880's with the couple likely in their 20's or 30's at the
time. In addition to their names, someone has written "Dad's youngest
sister and her husband" and "Dora" on the back of the photograph. I'm
guessing that Dora is the person to whom the photograph was given. Based on
limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding
Sam and Lydia:
Lydia A. MOHR was b. 31 Oct 1866 to parents John MOHR (1824-1904) and
Margaret KERAHOFF or KIRCHOF (b. 1835 or 1837-d. 1895). Lydia was one of 7
children born to this couple including, Daniel "Dan" L.; Martha
"Mattie"
Ann; Lydia A.; Dora E.; Emma A.; Andrew; and John Franklin MOHR, all born
between 1863 and 1876. It appears that her father John was married
previously and had an additional 9 children from his previous marriage
including, Mary K.; Sarah; Moses E.; Margaret "Maggie"; Ezra Edward; George
Washington; Anna; John A.; and Joseph A. MOHR, all born between 1849 and
1859.
Lydia married Samuel Zerby CROWEL (b. 9 Mar 1863 in Darke Co. OH) on 31 Oct
1888 in Ohio. Lydia died 29 May 1898 in Logan Co. OH.
Samuel Zerby or Zerbe CROWEL or CROWELL was b. 9 Mar 1863 in Bradford, OH to
parents Devault CROWEL (b. 22 Oct 1836) and Catherine Deeter ZERBE (b. 11
Feb 1845 in Darke Co. OH). Samuel was one of 6 children born to this couple
including, Samuel Zerby; Elizabeth; Maria; Abraham Z.; Joseph Alverton; and
Mary Catherine CROWELL, all born between 1863 and 1879. Samuel's first
marriage was to Lydia A. MOHR whom he married on 31 Oct 1888, his second
marriage was to Maud Ivy SMITH (b. 4 Apr 1870 in Covington, OH-d. 1921) on
27 Dec 1899 in Miami Co. OH, and together they had 3 children including,
Robert Earl; Catherine; and Leonard Smith CROWEL all born between 1901 and
1905. Samuel died 19 Dec 1926 in Lapeer, MI.
I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be
returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you
know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
