Saw your note. I live here in Cincinnati, Ohio with my family. Our grandfather was William
Katenkamp and he arrived here from Virginia in 1896 via wagon train so he told me when I
was young boy. His mom was a Kemper another familiar name to Cincinnati. He was married to
an Irish gal by the name of Martin who died in the World Wide flu epidemic in 1919. Before
she died as is the tradition with the Irish they can make a death bed wish and if at all
possible should be fulfilled. Her request was that her sister Emma give up her betrothed
and marry Bill and raise her 2 boys as her own. She did just that and 2 years later they
had their first child his name was Don. That was my dad. In Cincinnati there are 5
brothers and sisters with their families. We also have a brother in Florida who is with
his family.
As for Mary it is possible that she might have married the Katenkamp's that lived in
the Saint Bernard area of Cincinnati. The first mayor of Saint Bernard was a Katenkamp.
Also many of the first Fire Department in Cincinnati had Katenkamp's as officers that
were firefighters going as far back as the 1850's.
Also the Katenkamp's from Virginia were Rebs in the Civil War. One of the
Katenkamp's was an officer that died on the battle of Lookout Mountain in the Civil
War. Well that is some of what I know. Hope that helps!
