Hello Mail List:
(I apologize if this is the second time you have gotten this, but the first time I
sent it, I inadvertantly sent it to the "request" line.)
I am a new subscriber, but have often browsed the ZEIGLER postings. I wanted to post
an interesting site that I came across by just plugging in the name of my ancestor, James
Lawson ZEIGLER, at the Google Search Engine. If you go to:
http://library.truman.edu/manuscripts/zeigler.htm
you will find a picture of James Lawson ZEIGLER and four of his brothers, Samuel Clark,
John Walden, Harrison Perry, and Charles Emmett ZEIGLER. There are also summaries of some
letters that they have in their archives there at Truman State University in MO. These
letters were written home during the Civil War from members of the ZEIGLER family.
As I said, I am descended from James Lawson ZEIGLER, born on March 15, 1840, in
Columbus, OH and died Jan 8, 1920, in Hoxie, KS. His daughter, Elizabeth Dorothy, was my
g-grandmother. I have much more information on the family if anyone wants to email me
directly.
I am interested in finding out more about his ancestors. I know that his father and
mother were Harrison ZEIGLER and Elizabeth WHALEN or WHALING. I am not sure which on
that one. Also, I am not sure of Harrison's father. If anyone has information on
either of these, please let me know. I do know that the family settled in PA after coming
to America, then traveled to OH and MO. My branch went on to KS. There is a lot
of information on the Zeigler family at the Adair Co. MO GenWeb site.
Hope this photo and information helps someone.
