WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - Maxine Allen Zeigler died on Nov. 6, 2012, at Hughes, Health and
Rehabilitation Inc.
She was born April 3, 1917, in Youngstown, Ohio.
She was the daughter of Abraham Allen and Eva Gold Allen of Youngstown, Ohio and the wife
of the late Charles David Zeigler.
Maxine was the oldest of five children.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Dr. Herman L. Allen (and his late wife, Remelda) and
Sidney Allen (wife Betty Solomon Allen, who now resides in Florida) and her sister, Lila
Davis (wife of the late Max Davis).
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Solomon, wife of the late Marvin Solomon, who now
resides in Walnut Creek, Calif.
Maxine and Charles had four daughters, the late Barbara Z. Coopersmith, wife of the late
Howard Coopersmith, Gail Dawson, wife of John H. Dawson of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Leslie
Zeigler of New York City and Debbie Kaplove, wife of Dr. Kenneth Kaplove of Farmington,
Connecticut.
She had four granddaughters, Kelly Dawn Couch, wife of Christopher Couch of Twinsburg,
Ohio, Julia Caroline Dawson of Chapel Hill, N.C., Charly Rebecca Kaplove of Farmington and
Alizah Brooke Kaplove, a student at Union College in New York.
She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Hayden Couch of Twinsburg and many
nieces and nephews.
After finishing high school in Youngstown, Maxine worked briefly as a pianist for a local
radio station. Then she got a job as a secretary in surgery at a local hospital in
Youngstown, which she enjoyed very much.
After she married Charles Zeigler, she dedicated herself to her husband and children.
She loved cooking, playing the piano and collecting antiques. She had many friends to whom
she was devoted.
She was a lifetime member of Anshe Emeth Synagogue, now El Emeth Synagogue in Liberty,
Ohio.
She was buried at the El Emeth Cemetery, alongside her husband.
