SANDUSKY: Edward E. Zeigler, 89, of Sandusky, Ohio (Erie County) passed away early Monday
morning, July 25, 2011, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky,
Ohio.
Born on May 12, 1922 in Port Clinton, OHIO the son of the late Delbert and Lulu (Hiteshaw)
Zeigler.
He was a 1940 graduate of Attica High School.
Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during W.W. II as a Staff Sergeant for
Troop A 5th Calvary, he had received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze
Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars and the Bronze Arrowhead
Medal.
He worked at New Departure-Hyatt Inc.(Division of General Motors) for nearly 40 years,
retiring in 1983.
Ed was the crowned "King" of the Ohio Veterans Home for the 2010 Memorial Day
Parade. In his earlier days, he enjoyed fishing, going out dancing with his wife, Leona,
socializing at the local clubs, but mostly he enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife
throughout the years in their camper.
Member of Trinity United Methodist Church, life member and Past Commander of the American
Legion Post # 83, life member of A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17, life member of the V.F.W. Post #
2529, life member of the Sandusky Eagles Aerie # 444 and the Sandusky Orioles Club.
He is survived by a son, Edward A. (Mary Ann) Zeigler of Sandusky; two grandchildren,
Kevin (Edia) Zeigler of Huron, Ohio and Jenny Zeigler of Enon, OH; two
great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Nathan Zeigler; nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Leona P.
"Flip" (Carpenter) Zeigler on April 11, 2007; daughter, Trudy Lippus (1968).
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. at the David F. Koch
Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio. The American Legion will conduct
services that evening at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, July 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the funeral
home. Rev. Robert J. Machovec officiating.
Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
