What I have about David Zeigler is this: His gravesite is in Idaville, PA (this was
formerly called Whitestown) in the Zion Evangelical (Now a Methodist Church) cemetery
which is in the front of the church. The gravestone inscription is:
David Zeigler Dec 6 1790 died Dec 13, 1875 There is a marker next to the gravesite
that show he was wounded and served in the war of 1812. I got the pension records from
the War of 1812. His wife is Hannah Ross and he was wounded the first day of battle at
Chippewa July 5, 1815 and was discharged from the army a month later. A surgeons report
states he will no longer be able to work as a blacksmith. The pension records include
many statements from people who knew him: some of these people are: Joseph Zeigler,
George Meyers.
There is also a Jan 1838 will from Adams county for Ludwich Waltermeier (aka Waltermeyer)
wherein Ludwich leaves his land to his wife Agnes and a cow to Hannah Ross and then states
that David Zeigler can continue to live on and work the farm for the rest of David's
life, and that David assumes the costs of fence repairs, seed, etc. himself. David
Zeigler and Hannah Ross then marry in February 1838 and go on to have five children:
Sarah b 1839, Joseph b 1841, David Zeigler b 1843 Ann b 1847,and John Zeigler b. 1850.
David and Hannah do NOT continue to live and work on that farm for the rest of his life.
I would like to know why.....There is a newspaper headline in the Adams Sentinel that
states Estate of Ludwich Waltermeyer vs. David Zeigler, but that's all I know. I
don't know how to secure the court proceedings from that time.
I find them in various census records as Zeigler, Zigler, Siglar, Zrigler, Ziegler......My
husband is descended from David Zeigler b 1843....
