Karen ---
Where in Bucks County? I am descended from Peter Ziegler who lived in Durham
Township, Bucks County. Is this the same line you are descended from? Peter
was born about 1747 and died in December, 1821. The first record I have of
him in Durham Township is as a free man (unmarried) in 1768. He married
Catharine Barbara Werner around 1776.

Don't forget to check the S's too.
I have found Zeigler written as
Sigler in lots of records.
My early Zeiglers are from Bucks and Berks County and later Ashland Co.,
Ohio.

Plain digests are sent to subscribers with all posts listed in one
long
email. The alternative is MIME digests, which for many subscribers will
appear with each post as an individual attachment, although for others,
there is just one attachment. The default digest delivery is Plain, but if
you want your digest in MIME, please contact me at
ZEIGLER-admin(a)rootsweb.com directly and I'll switch you over.
To reply to a message, quote only that specific message, removing the
rest
of the digest from your reply. Also, remember to change the subject of
your reply so that it coincides with the message subject to which you are
replying.

There are literally TONS of Zeigler's in Pennsylvania during the time
you
mentioned. Most of them continued with the traditional Ziegler spelling,
so the fact that you are a Zeigler may have some significance. Do you
have any idea WHERE in Pennsylvania they may have come from? I have a
David Zeigler or Zigler who lived in both Cumberland and Adams counties
who had eight children with a first wife (who died prior to 1838) I have
not found those children or the first wife. I suspect that the older
children either married and left or must moved to Ohio or Illinois, along
with many many other Pennsylvanians in the 1840-1850 time frame.

John Zeigler (Zigler on some census; Zeigler on others) b.1821 PA
(unknown
area). He married Sara (unknown) b.1826 PA (unknown area). They had the
following children:
Elmira b.1844 PA
Benjamin b.1849 IN
Henry b.1853 IN
Martha b.1857 IN
George Washington b.1860 IL (my line)
In 1850, they were living in Vanburen, Fountain, IN
in 1860 to 1880, they were living in Newtown, Livingston, IL. George
Washington married in IL, then settled in Iowa.
Do you know what the connection is with the Dunkelberger family? I
have
an 11-year old Dunkelberger boy living with the above mentioned family in
1850, and 1870. Then I came across a Benjamin Zeigler b.1830 PA (possibly
the above John's brother?) living next door to a Samuel Beavers
with wife
Lavina (Dunkelberger). Samuel and Lavina's daughter married the above
mentioned George Washington Zeigler.
