My gg-grandfather, Wm. Zastrow, was born 9 June 1837 in Hanover, Germany of
parents also born in Hanover (1880 U.S. Census).
He immigrated to New York City in 1852 (1900 U.S. Census). He married Sarah
Swartz ca. 1863-64. She died Oct. 6, 1880.
In June 1880 he was a carman, they lived on 2nd Ave. in Manhatten, with 5
children, including my g-grandfather, Frank (Francis).
In 1890 he was listed on the Veterans Special Schedule as living in Croton
Landing, Westchester Co., N.Y.
In 1900 he was living in the Town of Cortlandt, Village of Croton with second
wife Anna. They had been married 1 year.
In 1910 he was living in Wayne Twp., Erie Co., PA with daughter & son-in-law
Anna & George Patterson.
He died 14 Jan. 1918 in Wayne Twp., Erie Co., PA and is buried in the
Wattsburg Cemetary, Wattsburg, Erie Co., PA.
His death certificate lists his occupation as a shoemaker.
He served in the Civil War in Co. B, 67 N.Y. Vol.
Three children, including Frank, were given up for adoption after their
mother's death in 1880 and came to Erie Co., PA ca. 1881 on a train (Orphan
Train?).
I would like to know more about William's parents, siblings, past, and about
Sarah Swartz Zastrow.
