Subject: [ZASTROW] Searching for roots
I have just begun searching for relatives and was wondering if anyone
could
assist me. I am Eric Zastrow and I live in Tonawanda, New York (Erie
County). My father's name is Robert Zastrow and He had two brothers- Gerald
Zastrow (d.) and Donald Zastrow (d.) and he has two sisters Barbara
Philbrick, and Debora Zastrow. All lived and/or live in North Tonawanda,
New
York (Niagara County) except for Debora who moved to Florida. My
Grandparents are Elmer Zastrow (b.1905-d.1996) and Anne (Meisenburg)
Zastrow(b.1908) My Grandfather had a brother Harold Zastrow who played
football for Temple University and then for the NY Giants as a lineman? My
Grandfather also had a sister Mildred (Zastrow) Gunderman. My g-grandfather
was Herbert Zastrow and I believe that he was born in Johnsburg, NY (Niagara
County) and then moved to North Tonawanda (Niagara County) I don't know
much
else except I believe the family that came to America was originally
from
the
Alsace Lorraine area of Europe. If anyone could help me I would grealy
appreciate it.
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation,
Eric T. Zastrow
I have read this posting twice in the past. I sent a personal
e-mail directly to the e-mail address of the lister, but still
have not received a reply. Maybe I may receive a response
if I go through the list instead.
Dear Eric,
I have just recently gotten involved in searching for the
ZASTROW branch of my family tree. I read your April posting
in the Rootsweb Mailing List Archives. We are definitely related!
My grandmother, Emma ZASTROW had a brother by the name of
Herbert ZASTROW whose parents, August ZASTROW (born 1847
in Stetien, Germany, died in 1923 in North Tonawanda (?), NY) and
Amelia Kinderman ZASTROW (born 1853 in Stetien, Germany, died in
1915 in St. Johnsburg, NY) settled in St. Johnsburg on Ward Road
(now known as Wheatfield).
I just received information last week from a distant cousin
of my great grandparents names. Amelia Kinderman ZASTROW,
I have been told, was a midwife and delivered many babies in
St. Johnsburg, Sanborn, and Pekin, NY.
I am trying to find some birth and death dates of some of
my grandmother's siblings. I have been told by my distant cousin,
who presently resides in No. Tonawanda, NY that August and Amelia
had 12 children. She was only able to name 10 of them and I believe
they are in the order of their birth. Their names were Frank, Herbert,
Otto, Emma, Freida, Helena, Lottie, Willie #1 (died as a child), Willie #2
(also died as a child), another Daughter (also died as a child) and August.
My cousin was not able to tell me when the family emmigrated into the US.
I would love to hear from you so we can discuss our "Family."
Sincerely,
Annette (Fose) Gaze
