Hi all--
I am searching for info on Elizabeth ZACKRY, who m my 3g grandf, Bird
NICHOLS, 13 Apr 1805 in Halifax Co, VA. I have a copy of the marriage
record. I don't know anything about Elizabeth's family and would like
to learn more.
Bird and Elizabeth's son, William, was b Jan 1806 in Halifax Co, VA.
At some point Bird went to Smith Co, TN. There is a courthouse record
there that he sold a negro boy on 7 Jun 1809. It is only signed by him,
not by any wife (did wives also have to sign off on their dower rights
when it came to slaves, or was that just for real estate?). Bird m#2
Polly P. HUGHES (my 3g grandm) around 1812. Their first child was b 5
Dec 1813 and was named Bird NICHOLS Jr. They went on to have 8 more ch.
We can assume Elizabeth ZACKRY was dead before 1812, or before 1809 if
wives where required to sign off dower rights. Did she die in child-
birth, 1806? Did she die in VA or go to TN with Bird and died there
before he m Polly HUGHES in c1812?
I'd be glad to share any info I have.
