I am not a descendant of Zachariah Wells but my sister and I have done a
DNA test at
Ancestry.com. Both of us have matched quite a few descendants
of Zachariah Wells at the 5th to 8th cousin level. However, we are the
descendants of TWO proven W006 ancestors, Aaron Wells of Mason County and
Nicholas County, Kentucky and Robert Wells of Mason County, Kentucky and
Clermont County, Ohio. Aaron's daughter, Ruth, married Robert's grandson,
William Callon. Besides having a double dose of Wells genes, we have the
advantage of an unusually small number of generations between them and us.
William Callon b. 1799 and Ruth Wells b. 1805, their son Marquis
deLafayette Callon b. 1839, his daughter Beatrice Amelia Callon b. 1881,
her daughter, Elnora Jane Davis b. 1921, then comes my sister and me. Both
Aaron and Robert Wells had sons named Nathan, Aaron and Robert and other
descendants, other than our ancestors, intermarried. All that is known for
sure is that Robert, who appears to be the older, is not Aaron's father.
They both came to Kentucky before 1790 and appear to have taken the Ohio
River route. We. too, believe that they are descendants of Robert of
Frederick County, Maryland, later Washington County, since Robert's
marriage record to Mary Downing in 1778 is in Washington County. Aaron
married Ruth Wiggins in Mason County, Kentucky in 1790. Of course,
unbeknownst to us, we could be related to these other descendants of
Zachariah through some other line but there are too many and from different
lines to make that the likely scenario.

Are there any descendants of Zachariah Wells of Lee County, Virginia,
active on this board right now? I would like to start a conversation about
his ancestry. Note that his male Wells descendants are members of Wells
Group W006 at
www.familytreedna.com. I believe that Zachariah was the
grandson of Robert Wells, born 1693 Prince George's County, MD - died
c.1771 Frederick County, MD) and his wife Ann (Lackland) or of Robert's
brother Joseph who settled in Orange County, NC. I do not believe he was
the Revolutionary War veteran who applied for a pension while living in
Sullivan County, Tennessee. Any takers? John B. Wells III
