Hello Carol,
Jon wrote the introduction for his "letter from the president" for the Aaron
and Ruth (Wiggins) Wells Family Association. I then wrote the short articles
about each man whose descendants' DNA has matched Aaron's descendants'.
Since this was the audience, I didn't feel the need to identify Nathan. He
is the son of Aaron Wells and Ruth Wiggins, and the recepient of a
disability pension from the War of 1812. He had a tree fall on him while
cutting wood for the encampment at St. Mary's, Ohio. I've often wondered if
Aaron also served in that conflict and it was the cause of his death in
1813. However, I haven't been able to find the evidence.
Dudley H. Wells married Lucinda McCollum, 13 Dec 1840, in Clermont Co., OH
and later a Dudley H. Wells married Ruth Ann Wells, daughter of Nathan and
Jane (Guffin) Wells, 24 Oct 1849, in Nicholas Co. KY. A Ruth Wells married
John McCollum, 29 JUL 1840 in Clermont Co., OH. Dudley H. Wells, age 32 born
Ohio, was enumerated with Ruth and the child from his first marriage, Rachel
E. Wells, age 5 born Ohio, in the 1850 Federal Census of Nicholas Co., KY.
John and Ruth (Wells) McCollum are in the 1850 Census of Nicholas Co., KY,
living next door to John and Ruth (Wiggins) Claypool. This second Ruth was
the daughter of William Wiggins and Elizabeth Ashcraft Wells, daughter of
Aaron Wells and Ruth Wiggins, and so would be Ruth (Wells) McCollum's first
cousin if she were, also, a child of John D. Wells and Rachel E. Wells..
Unfortunately, I've lost the McCollum family after 1850. Dudley and Ruth
(Wells) Wells later had two children, Nathan (named for her father) and
Lucinda (presumedly named after his deceased first wife.) Lucinda apparently
died young, but Nathan, born in 1854, married Sarah Jane Crockett and has
left many descendants, including a member of our family association with the
surname Wells. I hope it's not TOO confusing with all these intermarriages
but you can begin to see why I always suspected that Robert Wells of
Clermont Co., OH and Aaron Wells of Nicholas Co., KY were kinsmen as,
indeed, they have proved to be. As an aside, the family of John Boyd Wells
of Jefferson Co., IN (whose descendant, Raymond Wells, is also a DNA match)
also has the name Dudley in his family. John's son, Levi Wells, was the one
of that name who married Patience Ridlon in Clermont Co., OH in 1814. John
D. Wells and Rachel Wells' oldest known son (the one Rachel was living with
in 1880) was also named Levi. John Boyd Wells Jr.'s oldest known son was
named Aaron. Somtimes a coincidence is just a coincidence but it doesn't
hurt to be aware of them.
Patricia

Subject: [Zachariah Wells] Robert Wells
Good morning Patricia,
Last Feb. you passed on a wonderful summery of the different men written
by Jon Hagee. Today, I was going over them carefully and came across
something that I need clarification on.
Regarding Robert, and I quote..."John D. and Rachel E.(Wells)Wells were
probably the parent sf Dudley H. Wells who married Ruth Ann, daughter of
Nathan Wells and Jane Guffin......"
Question regarding Nathan and Jane....Nathan is the son of whom ?? How
does he fit in?
Robert's Nathan m. Catherine Davis...and there is a brick wall for me,
regarding children's names.
John D's Nathan I have married to Mariah Hughes.
What am I missing? Hope you can help me with this....Carolann
