For this article, I had contacted Ron K. Smith who is a Farquahar family
researcher. Though I didn't include the following information in the article
for space reasons, there definitely appears to be a link between the
Augustine Wells of Washington Co., PA and the Joseph Wells and Sarah
Farquhar family:
"In 1867, William Wells signed a legal power of attorney document, declaring
himself to be a legal heir, through his mother, Sarah, to his grandfather,
John Farquhar of Brownsville, Fayette County, PA.
Other Wells men who signed were probably William's brothers; D. B. Wells,
Joseph Wells Jr., Hiran A. Wells, James Wells, then William, and finally
Benjamin Wells.
Other legal papers were previously signed in 1859 that were witnessed by
probably first cousins; Thomas F. Wells and Augustin Wells."
Ron believes that these were probably cousins since they signed only as
witnesses and not as heirs, but they certainly weren't strangers. Here's
what I found on-line at
Mid Monongahela Valley History and Genealogy
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pamonval/
From the Thurstons Directory of the Monongahela and Youghiogheny Valleys -
1859
Greenfield, Washington County
Wells, Augustine, stone cutter
Wells, James L., ship carpenter
California, Washington County
Wells, Thomas F., boat builder
Wells, John R., ship carpenter
Brownsville, Fayette County
Wells, Joseph, pattern maker
This site also has a good map which shows all these places are within just a
few miles of each other on either side of the Monongahela River.

Augustine
Patricia,
I am collecting info. on all individuals named Augustine Wells. In
addition
to Augustine, Sr. and Augustine, Jr., of Monongalia County, WV (my
ancestors),
there is the Augustine of Washington County, PA, which you mentioned
in
your
posting.
Some of the others are an Augustine C. Wells of Mason County, Kentucky,
who
died August 9, 1869, and Augustine H. Wells, listed in the 1860
census as
living in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, and born in Kentucky. There
are
more.
I am hoping that the folks on this mailing list with any data on any
Augustine Wells will contact me so that we can try to make some
connections.
