Dear Wells cousins,
I am a descendant of Jeremiah, the son of Zachariah, and his wife, Elizabeth
Culbertson. I decided recently to try to document all of their offspring. I
received a list from a Wells cousin a few years ago with those children and
their birth years. I wanted to verify that list with census records, so I
tried to identify as many people as possible in the 1850 and 1880 USFCs for
VA. (I realize that there may be considerable inaccuracies in those data,
but have nothing else to go on.) On doing so, I found some discrepancies
with the original list. I wonder if any of you can confirm what I have
found. Are all of these individuals the children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth?
Am I missing any? Do you have actual birth dates for any of them from other
sources?
The children are as follows:
Jeremiah (Jr.): b. 1812
David W.: b. 1815
James F.: b. 1817
Joseph C.: b. 1820
Ellington: b. 1821
Johnson: b. 1824 or 1826
Doctor Franklin: b. 1825
Andrew Jackson: b. 1828 or 1830
Agnes: b. 1831 or 1832
Elizabeth: b. 1834
Jonathan: b. 1836
In addition, I wonder about the approximate birth date of Elizabeth. It was
given in the information I received as 1796, but the year computed from the
1850 census data is 1792, which seems a bit more plausible if her first child
was born in 1812. I welcome any additional information or insights that any
of you may be able to provide. Thanks!
