I am sure there are some folks who connect to your ancestor Dr.
Jeremiah C. Wells - I know I have seen the name posted previously.
When you get the opportunity I hope you will transcribe the contents
of the bible you wrote about, post it here and let me put it up on
the
Wells.org site. That may be of interest to many from your
family. It may solve some problems.

Hello everyone!
This comes to you with much excitement! I am the Great Great
Grandson of Dr. Jeremiah C. Wells of Southwest Virginia. I was also
named after him, but my name was shortened to "fit in" with the times.
Gertrude Wells was a daughter of Jeremiah. She married and had a
daughter named Juanita Agnus Clifton. She is my grandmother is still
with us at the age of 89 years old!
I grew up in Big Stone Gap, VA. Some artificats of Dr. Wells were on
exhibit at the SouthWest Virginia Museum until the mid 90's when a
renovation of the museum took place. These artifacts are still in
the museums possession but are currently in storage.
During my Easter vacation, I went searching for Dr. Wells' grave
site and found it! I do have pictures and plan on sharing them with
Orin Wells as soon as possible. As stated in earlier posts, there is
also a Rev. J.C. Wells and Sarah Wells at the same site. I have
pictures of all the headstones. The gentleman at the cemetary told
me that the Wells plot was about 30 ft by 30 ft. There are also a
couple of rock headstones in place with no inscription. There were
indentions in the ground that would suggest more burials in the plot
area, but there were no headstones.
Based on my findings, both Rev. J.C.Wells and Dr. J.C.Wells were in
the Confederate War. There is a foot stone at each grave with some
information about their service enlistment. The gentleman there
suggested I check withe Wise County Historical Society for further
information on that subject. There were also American Flags on each grave.
In my family, there is also a photograph of Dr. Wells by himself and
one with all of his Siblings. I will be in the process of
photographing those to be posted on the website. We also have his
Bible with a list of ancestors wrote in it. I will try to post this
information as quickly as my time allows.
My uncle, Gary Kilgore of BSG, VA, was our family historian and with
his untimely death, I am left with a gap of knowledge. I look
forward to hearing from anyone and everyone in the Wells families
and anticipate this to be just the beginning of my journey!
Sincerely,
Jeremy Mullins
