There are some of us that are so tenacious that like a 'pit bull' will never
stop shaking the tree until something new falls out ... :o)

I am from the old Zach search group and until the DNA results came out I had
no reason think North of the Mason/Dixon line so I never did anything north
:-) Just a good ol" southern boy at heart, as most of my other family on the
McMillan side is from NC and Scotland. My family groups didn't 't start
wandering out west until late in the 1800's and we never had any interest
in the northern environments:-)
Glad to see someone out there is still searching I have't had much time in
recent years to do much I do still get hits from some of the others, but not
much.

Is anyone searching WELLS / WELLES in Madison Co., NY in late 1790-1840?
I found my brick wall, James Wells b: 13 Mar 1792 was living in Lebanon,
Madison Co, NY. He enlisted into the War of 1812 in Mar 1812 in Hamilton
(neighboring village), he and his wife, Persis (EARLE) sold land in Oct 1816
and moved to Huron Co., Ohio between 1828-1830. The land they sold was next
to Fones GARDNER / GARDINER. The land was sold to Joseph GARDNER.
There is a WELLS family headed by John WELLS and Betsey GALOWAY who were
living in Hamilton from before Madison Co. was founded in 1806 (previously
Chenango Co.). They had several children but William b: c 1791 d: 7/9 Sep
1830 at the age 39. His wife's name was Persis. I knew James and Persis
were estranged but now I am thinking that they may have divorced and she wed
as a 2nd wife of William Wells. William's probate indicated he had several
children: Alfred, Albert, Oscar F, Amanda, Alonzo and William W Wells.
Persis was assigned as their 'special guardian'.
I am trying to find if there is a connection between my brick wall, James
Wells b: 1792 d: 1870 OH and John and Betsey (Galoway) WELLS.
If you are researching the WELLS of Madison Co., NY . please contact me.
