This is to notify you that the Wells Surname DNA Study Merge project
(merging all the gedcoms which could be obtained from the Study Coordinator
and/or the individual researchers)is almost complete. Of the 450+ DNA
participants, I received only 245 gedcoms to be merged. In addition, I
received 132 non-tested Wells gedcoms. It would have been better to have
all gedcoms but in the almost 8 months of working on this I have attempted
to obtain the missing gedcoms both through the coordinator AND using the
Project Results ability to send blind email messages to the researchers in
order to get as many as possible.
Even though it does not represent 100% of the DNA tested lineages, I am
proud of the results. Here are a few facts about the database:
Single database with over 100,100 names:
a) Surname Index (includes the count of the number of surnames)
b)Master Index (best for Wells / Welles surnames)
c)Location Index (each place name: city, county/district,
state/province, and country shows each person who has an event in that
location)
d)Subset DNA Family Index for W001-W039 Families
e)Charts Index: Descendant Charts for each DNA Family
Tips for finding data:
1) if you are looking for a specific surname (other than Wells)- use the
Surname Index
2) if you are looking for a specific Wells - use the Master Index
3)if you are looking for all the people who have an event associated with a
specific location - use the Location Index
4)if you are only interested in a specific DNA Family, use the DNA Family
indexes ... W001-W039, W040-W599, or W999
5)W999 is the family for un-tested WELLS
6)If you are looking for the 'top' of a specific DNA Family, say "W001",
in
the Surname Index, click on "_W001" (underscores were used to separate the
non-individual surnames). The Given name "_Top" will get you to the top of
the DNA Family. From there you can select a DNA Participant (ID001-ID599)
by selecting "_IDxxx". ID numbers from ID700-W999 are non-tested
submittals. The ID700s 'should' be the maternal Wells lines or where a male
participant could not be located. ID900s 'should' be those that were
researched by others but found not to be related to their family -- rather
than destroying the research, it is placed here in hopes of helping others
who may be related.
7) If you are looking for a specific researcher, select surname
"_Researcher", then the Given name will either be the researchers name or
the ID number "_IDxxx". IF the researcher provided contact information,
this is where it will be.
8)Sources .. well, very few gedcoms included source information. However,
source links are included.
9)the REFERENCE NUMBER on each person's data is the DNA Family and ID number
.. and will look like "W123 ID456"
10)The DNA icon is displayed behind each man who is the direct male line
from each DNA participant. Therefore you can follow the exact DNA line for
that ID number.
What is left to be completed:
1) finish adding county/district names to locations who did not have the
county/district information (should be complete in a couple days)
2)merging duplicate individuals (I probably will not start this for a
couple weeks .. I need a break)
3)any corrections which may be received. (send to ladybonita(a)usa.com)...
make sure to do a copy/paste of the bad data into the email message so I can
find the correct person.
4)there are some paper lineages which have not been completed due to
time constraints.
5)move the website to
http://www.wells.org
Note: a list of those ID numbers and their Wells Ancestor are in a file just
under the database information.
Oh, so you want a URL??? I am currently (3:40 PST on Oct 29)uploading new
data and it will probably take about 6 hours, so you can check it tomorrow.
