Anyone who has been thinking of doing an Autosomal DNA test to see if
you can find some cousins to help you through some brick wall whether it
be a Wells family or some other family line, today through Monday
Ancestry has their AncestryDNA test on sale at $79. The benefit of
doing this test at Ancestry is that you can then transfer the results to
Family Tree DNA into their Family Finder database. Thus you can make
use of both databases and take advantage of the matching tools at both
companies. The shipping costs that will be added are $9.95 but that is
also the case at FamilyTreeDNA. Go here to order:

As a Wells family researcher we are looking for support to expand our
net of Wells DNA tests. There isn't a month that goes by when I or
Cynthia Wells are not contacted by someone with Wells roots who is
interested in taking the y-DNA test to try to validate the connection.
In addition many of us are completely stuck at a genealogical "brick
wall" not being able to move forward on our research because we are
unable to make that next connection or to connect our earliest ancestor
to his family in England/Ireland/Scotland etc. I recently also became
aware of some Wells families who came out of Austria in the early 1800s.
Often the subjects we would like to test to either help them connect to
their Wells ancestors or resolve a mystery or attract some UK descendant
with sufficiently deep genealogy that they might be helpful to existing
researchers are not able to financially justify the $158.95 cost of the
testing. That includes the $9.95 charged for shipping and handling of
the test kit.
We would like to appeal to those of you who are able to help with this
challenge. What we need are some contributions that would be strictly
used to subsidize or pay for DNA tests for the above reasons. We can
not guarantee that any of these will necessarily help you with your
research, but you may be able to help someone else. Plus, we never know
where a test will lead. Cynthia and I will always discuss these
subsidized tests to make sure we both agree the test is going to be
potentially beneficial for the project.
There are two ways you can contribute.
1) make a contribution by credit card to the Family Tree DNA Wells Project
* Go to this link:
https://www.familytreedna.com/group-general-fund-contribution.aspx
* In the first pull down list in the center of the page select "W"
* In the second pull down list next to the first (once it displays)
find and select "Wells"
* Fill in the amount you would like to contribute (no amount is too
small or too large)
* Select the donation type (Unknown, Anonymous, Individual, In
Memory Of,
* Fill in your name so we know who it came from unless you wish to
remain anonymous
* Add a note if you wish. If you want it to only be used for UK
tests for example
* Click on the Pay-Pal button and provide the information that
requests.
2) You can send a check to
Wells Family Research Association
PO Box 5427
Kent, WA 98064
The Wells Family Research Association is NOT a non-profit, so your
contribution is not tax deductible. We applied to the IRS 25 years ago
but they decided since we were focused primarily on a single surname
they would not give us the status.
Right now we have two such tests pending. One will help us resolve an
obvious non-paternal event in one branch of the Long Island Wells
family. Another is a Wells from Nottinghamshire in the UK with
genealogy into the 1600s. We will add more as we find the opportunities.
Hopefully most will be able to cover part of the cost so we can
stretch the funding as far as possible.
Anything you are willing to do will be greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
You are receiving this email because you are a participant in the Wells
DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. This may be one or more tests you have
taken or which was taken through a surrogate cousin or other relative.
Depending on whether you are subscribed to another Wells list you may
receive more than one email with this topic. It just isn't practical
for me to try to remove the duplicate email addresses. So please
forgive me.
