I believe the final resting place of William T. Wells is in Hazard, KY or
Perry County. This is from a book "Perry County, Kentucky-A History" by
Hazard Chapter D.A.R. copywrite date 1953 (I know one or two of you have
this book). The book mentions some churches William T. Wells visited in
Perry County. The Indian Bottom Church formed in 1810 (Presbytery) located
at Blackey, KY was visited by the Elder Daniel Duff, William Wells, and John
Flannery. It states that William later settled in Hazard. Then it says
William and the other two mentioned above formed the Oven Fork Church in
1820. Sandlick Church formed on August 13, 1815 named for Sandlick Creek
which flowed beside it was also visited by Daniel Duff, William Wells, and
John Flannery. William T. Well's sons Ira and Elihue later settled near
Cutshin (located in Leslie Co., KY now but at the time it was Perry Co.,
KY).
From the book "In The Life of Floyd Wells Kentucky Pioneer
(1894-today)" by
Floyd Wells copywrite date 1987, Floyd mentions the children
of Ira Wells
and Cassie Joseph: Elihue, Andrew, Phillip, William, Ira, James, George,
Rebecca, Elizabeth, and Cassie. Ira Wells and Cassie Joseph settled on
Green Briar Branch, Leslie Co., KY (then Perry Co. as mentioned before). He
also mentions stories about Ira Wells' children and where they lived.
From Sadie W. Stidham's book "Trails Into Cutshin Country A
History of the
Pioneers of Leslie County, Kentucky" (copywrite 1978) it
mentions a William
T. Wells born in Lee Co., VA in 1799. This William T. Wells would be 16
years old if he visited those churches (not much of an elder that way).
This book says that William T. lived at Big Stone Gap, VA. It also mentions
a Richard Wells who in the late 1700's settled in Philadelphia and then
moved to Maryland. Zachariah Wells (mentioned as a son) was born in
Maryland in 1739 and married Elizabeth Osborne. I don't know if this is the
same one or not. They supposedly moved to Big Stone Gap, VA in 1797. I'm
not sure if this information is beneficial or not. William T. Wells, the
son of Zachariah Wells, could have been the William T. that came to those
churches. Thomas' son William T. Wells was probably the father of Ira and
Elihue Wells. Ira was born in 1822 which would make Thomas' William T.
Wells 23 at the time of his birth. If you all have any more info. just send
it along...
