Hi Kim,
I do not think I will be able to help you much. The only record of Thomas
Wells that I have is from family "legend" which is basically embellished
word of mouth stories with some element of truth. My Aunt did transcribe
the following from the 1840 census of Lee Co., Va. I believe she did her
research in the archives of the public library in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Here is what I show:
1840 CENSUS OF LEE CO., VA. MICRO FILM ROLL # 182, PG. 94, JOHN
HAMBLIN-CENSUS TAKER, MARSHAL OF THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF VIRGINIA.
NAME # 4 : Thomas Wells age: 60-70 (That makes him born no earlier than
1770) Persons Employed 2: Agriculture. 5 Persons in household, 3 females
(1 fem - 60/70 yrs., 1 fem - 20/30 yrs., 1 fem - 0/5 yrs.) and two males
(Thomas and 1 male - 15/20 yrs). 3 cannot R&W.
Happy Hunting! (I am still lookin for the burial place of Thomas' son -
Rev. Wm.T Wells)
God Bless,
Rick
