Although it is relatively certain that the Zachariah Wells who was a
Revolutionary War veteran from Loudon County, VA, was not the same man as
the Zachariah Wells of Wilkes Co., NC/Lee County, VA, I wonder if anyone
has done much research in Loudon County to see if there is a possible
connection there of some kind. In checking the Loudon County tax lists I
find a Zachariah Wells listed in the Shelburne Parish fro 1770 thru 1787.
This alone precludes this fellow as the same man as the Wilkes Co./Lee Co.
Zachariah. However, also in the Shelburne Parish were listings for Jacob
Wells(1768 thru 1779), Jeremiah Wells(1779), and James Wells(1776-77).
There were other names as well, but of particular interest in Thomas
William Wells who is listed in the tax list from 1760 thru 1766. The estate
of Thomas William Wells was inventoried in Loudon County in 1768 and gain
in 1774. This Thomas William Wells was one of three men by the name of
Wells listed in the early tax lists for Loudon County. Also listed in the
1760 list was Levi Wells. A John Wells joined them in 1762.
My question is whether anyone has eliminated thie Loudon County Wells
family from consideration as related to the Zachariah Wells of Wilkes
Co./Lee Co.? The names "Thomas," "William," "Zachariah,"
"Jacob," "James,"
and "Jeremiah" sure sound good.
