Kathy,
Thanks for responding. It's good to know others are searching in this
area.
The address of the Letcher County Historical and Geneological Society is:
P.O. Box 312, Whitesburg, KY 41858. I don't remember how much I paid for
these books, but I don't think it was a lot. They contain 833 pgs. with
pictures and are soft cover and affordable.
I was best friends in elementary school with a descendant of David
Sturgill and Rachel Boggs. My sister owns a hair salon in Whitesburg and
sees her regularly. I will try to find out from Barbara Sturgill if she
knows anything about her family history.
Yes, I would like to sign up on the BOGGS list. I have a Boggs line that
has dead ended.
Another item of note--in the list of John and Jemima's children Nancy
Sturgill married 1)Elisha Pennington 2)Lindsey Lester 3)William Riley
Webb. Elisha Pennington was a son of William Pennington and Abigail
Caudill. William is my GGGgrandfather. Another child of John and
Jemima, Agnes, is listed married 1) Levi J. Webb; 2) John W. Pennington.
John W. Pennington is another son of William and Abigail Pennington. We
have John married to Rachel Morgan daughter of Zachariah Morgan. Can
anyone confirm the marriage of Agnes Sturgill to John W. Pennington?
Elizabeth Sturgill, d/o John and Jemima married John M. Webb on August
13, 1839. John M. Webb was a son of James Webb and Elizabeth Pennington.
Elizabeth Pennington is a d/o William and Abigail Pennington.
I think these Wells descendants made a point of marrying cousins. I am
still expecting to find a relationship between the Penningtons and Wells.
Kathy, a well-known historian here in Bristol who has
Boggs/Caudill/Pennington lines has offered to go over his files with me.
I'll let you know what I find out.
