Hi Lucille and everyone,
I would like to know more about "Family Histories of Letcher County" . How
much does it cost and what is the address for the Letcher Co. Genealogy
Society?
My line is the STURGILL/WELLS line that you mentioned, but I've had a tough
time proving that Hugh STURGILL/STUGEON is the oldest son of David and
Rachel (Boggs) Sturgill (David is the oldest son of John and Jemima (Wells)
Sturgill). Hugh is buried in Knox Co., KY near Corbin.
I have the books "Some Branches of the Sturgill Family" by David Sturgill.
These two books cover a bit of Wells info. But, apparently, the author
wasn't real sure about Jemima Wells' ancestry either. David Sturgill turned
82 this spring and he was online for the past year, but he has not answered
my last couple of e-mails - so now I'm concerned about him. He lived in
Piney Creek, NC - very close to New River State Park.
There is no Sturgill list, but there is a BOGGS list and I am on that one.
If you need subscribe instructions - I can send them to you.
I, too, am hunting several family lines that moved from the New River, NC
area into SW VA and SE KY. I have copies of pages from a book that listed
tax records. The HINDS that moved from NC to Pulaski Co., KY are in those
records - as well as some of the names that we are researching on this list.
I did not copy every page from that book, but I do have several pages that
had surnames I was hunting.
Best Regards,
Kathy Hines
