This indenture made the twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and six between Uriah Sheppard of Lee County and state
of Virginia of the one part and Zachariah Wells of the county and state
aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Uriah Sheppard for and
in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty three dollars current
money of the United States to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth
hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered unto the said
Zachariah Wells his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land being
and lying in the said county of Lee and on the North Fork of Powells River
for the sum of forty pounds and bounded as followeth to wit: Beginning at a
hickory and two dogwoods on the side of a ridge thence ____70 E 88 (not
certain of the location here) poles crossing Looneys Creek to a White Oak and
two Spruce Pines on a cliff of the river thence South 20 West160 poles
crossing the river to sorrels then North 70 West 88 poles to a stake thence
North 20 East 100 poles to the beginning containing by estimation one hundred
acres be the same more or less together with the appurtenance thereunto
belong to have and to hold said tract or parcel of land with all its
appurtenances to the sole use and be hoof of him the said Zachariah Wells his
heirs and assigns forever and the said Uriah Sheppard for himself and his
heirs doth covenath with Zachariah Wells and his heirs that he the said Uriah
Sheppard and his heirs the same tract or parcel of land with all its
appurtenance unto the said Zachariah Wells and his heirs and assigns will
warrant and forever defend against the___________claim of all persons
whatsoever claiming under him in witness where of the said Uriah Sheppard
hath here unto subscribed his name and affixed his seal the day and year
first above written.
