Richard Wells
Lee Co, Virginia 1820
This indenture made this 27th day of July 1820 between William Ely of the one
part and Richard Wells of the other part both of the county of Lee and state
of Virginia Witness that the said William Ely and Mary his wife for and in
consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars current money of the United
States to them in hand paid the receipts whereof he doth acknowledge him
granted bargained and sold unto the said Richard Wells his heirs and assigns
one half of a certain tract or parcel of land it being the same tract of land
conveyed to William Ely and Richard Wells by deed from Aquilla Noe and Sally
Noe his wife and Benny Noe continaing Two hundred and thirteen acres and it
being the same tract of land that Samuel Adams deeded to Azuilla Noe lying in
the county of Lee and bounded as followeth to wit: beginning on the end of
a rocky spur at a white oak sugar tree and hickory north eighty degrees with
81 poles to two bushes on the bank of a dry branch South 34 degrees East 257
poles crossing a branch to two Sourwoods on the side of a ridge in the old
line twenty two poles
(my note: no degrees given) from a triple poplar near North 83 degrees West
238 poles to three poplars near the top of a ridge North 7 West 200 poles to
a poplar and black oak thence 882 degrees East 115 poles to the beginning of
the conditional line which side half of the above mentioned tract with its
appurtenance the said Richard Wells his heirs to the sole use and behoof of
him the said Richard Wells and his heirs aforesaid forever and the said
William Ely and his wife Mary their heirs renounce and relinquish the said
undivided half or_________of said tract of land with ____will warrant and
forever defend the said one half of the aforesaid tract of land with all its
appurtenance unto the said Wells his heirs against the claim of all persons
whatsoever in witness whereof the said William Ely both hereunto subscribed
their name and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

We Isom Hubbard and Peter Fuexerson justices of the peace in the county
aforesaid do hereby certify that William Ely party to a certain deed bearing
date the 27th day of July 1820 and hereto answered personally appeared before
us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed
and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk of the county
court of Lee in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under
ourhands and seals the 27th day of July 1820.

Lee County to wit
We Isom Hubbard and Peter Fulxerson Justices of the Peace in the county
aforesaid do hereby certify that Mary Ely the wife of William Ely parties to
the forgoing deed bearing date on the 27th July 1820 and hereunto annexed
personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined by
us personally and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully
explained to her she the said Mary Ely acknowledged the same to be her act
and deed and declaimed that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the
same and that she wished not to extract it. Given under our hands and seals
the 27th day of July 1826.
