Not much time to respond, but Richard Wells and Elizabeth Brown were not
Zachariah's parents! I will have to go through my notes, but this was
disproven a long time ago, but was incorrectly accepted as fact for so long
that it pops up once and again.

I guess I am one of the "new members"I however I find some of these
statements a bit puzzeling.1.....assuming Richard was Zach 1 father,and
a spy for Gen. Washingtons Army,I find it hard to believe he was "loyal
to England"I also believe Zach1 and zach 2 were not father and son but
perhaps uncle and nephew,or cousns.Zach 2 was definetly married to
Sheppard.....the Wells,Yates,Shepards were neighboors in Wise Co VA and
intermarried quit often.
Zach 1 birthplace could have been PA seeing his father and mother were
from that area durning The Rev. War. Where was this information
documented?Come to think of it, Im not sure Zach1 mother and father WERE
Richard and Elizebeth(nee Brown)I have not seen Zach1 being listed asone
of their children.
After dong a lot of research myself,I find that if there is not 3 or 4
pieces of documentation I think it only conjecture.
I need to see proof on this gentlemans "conjecters" before believing
what he says.
There is a "family Bible" belonging to My "Granny Yates"(daughter of
Zach2 and Shepard)I have been emailing the person who has it for over a
year....with no response.However..one of these days<g>
Thank you for this gentlemans words,I will keep it "in file" and revert
back to it as I see some more posative documentation.
I guess the jury is still out on the ol' Zachs.
Have a good day....Andy Kidd

Greetings to one and all! It has ben a while since there have been any
postings on this list and so I thought I would post an item that I
received from a allied family member to see if it can stir up any
comments or thoughts about the data that Charles Osborn has posted on a
GenForum posting of mine! I have posted data from this gentleman before
and it has always been puzzling to me what he says and where he gets his
data.
So the following is the most recent info he has posted:
CLAUDE,
IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ENOUGH DATA NOW EXISTS TO STATE THE FOLLOWING:
ZACHARIAH WELLS I WAS BORN EITHER IN NORTHEASTERN VA, FREDERICK CO MD,
OR WESTERN PA.
HE WAS IN FINCASTLE CO VA AS A SCOUT ALONG WITH THE BOONES, AND OSBORNS.
HIS LAND GRANT
ORIGINALLY IN FINCASTLE CO VA WAS REALLY ACROSS NEW RIVER IN WILKES CO
NC. HIS NEIGHBORS
WERE PENNINGTON, LANDRETH, BLEVINS, AND BAKER. HIS LOYALTY WAS STRONGLY
FOR ENGLAND. HE
RISKED HIS LIFE TO TAKE THE LEADER OF THE REBELS TO SC. IN THE FRACAS HE
WAS WOUNDED,
BUT LEGEND HAS IT HE WAS HANGED ANYWAY. HIS WIFE WAS PROBABLY ELIZABETH
WHO SHOWS UP IN
TAX LIST THE FOLLOWING YEAR. CLEARLY HE WAS MARRIED BEFORE HE MET THE
OSBORNS FROM THE
AGE OF ZACHARIAH WELLS IN 1784 TAX LIST OF WILKES CO NC.
ZACHARIAH WELLS II MUST HAVE BEEN HIS SON TO LIVE IN THE SAME PLACE THE
SENIOR DID BEFORE
THE REV. WAR. HIS INTERACTIONS WITH CAPT ENOCH OSBORN WOULD SHOW THE
FAMILY WAS STILL IN
FAVOR WITH THE OSBORNS AFTER THE WAR. ZACH II SISTER AGNESS M. JONATHAN
OSBORN AS HIS
SECOND WIFE. THIS WAS PROBABLY HER FIRST MARRIAGE. SHE LIVED ONLY A FEW
YEARS GIVING
BIRTH TO STEPHEN OSBORM ZACH II M ABIGAIL OSBORN GRAND DAUGHTER OF CALEB
OSBORN OF ROWAN
CO NC. HIS CHILDREN MARRIED INTO NEGHBOR HOOD FAMILIES-STURGILL,
BLEVINS, LANDRETH, ETC.
HE APPARENTLY MOVED TO LOWER VA.
I DON'T HAVE MY NOTES WITH ME HERE, BUT KNOW A SON, OR GRANDSON OF ZACH
II STATED THEY
HAD WELSH ANCESTRY, AND CAME FROM EASTERN VA. ZACH WAS SAID TO HAVE GOT
IN AN ARGUMENT
WITH HIS BROTHER ROBERT, AND LEFT HOME.
THERE WAS A ROBERT, AND JACOB IN TAX LIST FOR FREDERICK CO MD AREA IN
1740'S. EARLIER A
ROBERT, I BELIEVE, IN LANCASTER CO PA. AND MOSES WELLS IS ON THE 1734
TAX LISTS OF
PHILADELPHIA CO PA.
I THINK YOU WILL FIND ZACH II NAMED A SON ROBERT, AND ONE JACOB.
THIS INTERPRETATION IS SUBJECT TO FURTHER DATA.
GOOD HUNTING,CHARLES
To head off any negative comments against myself, I don;t particularly
abide by what he has sent and I have already shown this to Orin and he
felt as I did that it may be interesting to see if anyone has any
comments or corrections to this data. I believe we have some new members
to the list who may like to comment and could possibly add or subtract
from this data. Also don't you just hate it when someone types
everything in caps, it makes so darn hard to follow at times, this is
the way it was posted on GenForum.
So now everyone take their shots and make comments to this data, be nice
as some of our newest members may not be aware of a lot of the
controversy surrounding Ol' Zack! And we don;t want to scare them away.
Claude E. Wells
