Three Forks Church
(Primitive Baptist)
The Three Forks Church was constituted in the year of our Lord 1798, 3rd
Saturday in September on the principals following….Partial List of Members:
Janetta Wells (that's the only surname I recognize)
According to the Minutes of the Church, the Church was reconstituted in 1825:
"Known by the name of the United Baptist church at the 3 Forks of Powell
River."
Constituted the 19th march 1825…The Church then agreed to seek fellowship
with the Washington Association and chose Brethern James Shepherd, Zachariah
Wells Jr., Jacob Wills (Wells?) and Benjamin Tompkins to "Bare" a letter to
that association to be held at Middle Fork church Washington County,
Virginia, third Friday in August 1825 and the two following days to that
affect….
July 3rd Saturday 1826…Brother James Shepherd and his wife Rachel Shepherd
made application for letters of dismission which was granted to them, also
Brother Jacob Wells and his wife Joannah Wells applied for letters of
dimission, also sister Elizabeth Yates applied for a letter…letter granted
Polly Boggs.
September 3rd Saturday 1826
Jeremiah Wells received by letter…Brother Zachariah Wells reported to the
church that he "bare" the letter to Washington district Association for a
union with them and they received it gladly.
3rd Saturday in June 21st day 1845…
Brother Zachariah Wells, Sr. resigned his deaconship…
3rd Saturday July 19th 1845…
Delegates appointed to the association Zachariah Wells Sr., Thomas Wells,
Sr., Isaac Willis, and Elisha Debusk.
January 3rd Saturday 15th 1848…lack of deacons….Jeremiah Wells being
deceased and Zachariah Wells Sr. who had desisted of serving the church on
account of some of the brethern that he was not in order to serve as Deacon….
1837 2nd Saturday September Association held at Deep Springs---William
Wells, William Booth and John Horton were sent as delegates,
