I've been off of the list a short while, but still trying to find the answer to the
true lineage of one Lewis wells born in VA abt. 1825, and married Lucinda Johnson,
daughter of Malinda Johnson who married Lewis' father Zachariah.
1850 LAWRENCE CO. KY CENSUS:
251 WELLS, LEWIS 25 M FARMER VA
LUCINDA 17 F KY
JOHNSON, MALINDA 37 F NC
JOHNSON, ALFORD 13 M KY
Marriage record lists Malinda Johnson giving consent for Lucinda to marry 10/28/1849 in
Lawrence Co. KY.
1860 LAWRENCE CO. KY CENSUS LISTS LEWIS AGE 38, LIVING NEXT TO ZACHARIAH WELLS (AGE 63)
AND WIFE MALINDA.
1880 ELLIOTT CO, KY CENSUS LISTS ZACHARIAH (BOTH PARENTS FROM VIRGINIA) LIVING WITH LEWIS.
Assessors Book for that portion of Morgan County as was included in Elliott Co for the
year 1869:
Wells, Lewis
Wells, Zachariah
I once ran across the birth record for twin girls, Matilda F. Wells and M. Francis Wells
1850's, listing parents as Zachariah Wells and Lucinda Johnson. I can't find the
record again, but have begun to wonder if Lewis' name couldn't have been Zachariah
Lewis or Lewis Zachariah??? Also, in all of the downlines I've seen, none have a
child named Lewis for this marriage. Strange?
My relationship is through their daughter Hannah Wells who married "Peter" Durin
Calvin Mays, son of David Mays and Susannah Click.
Has anything been resolved, and if so where could I view the information?
Thank you,
Margaret
