I have received a request from the BYU project relative to the Wells
Special Case study. It seems that others have been hearing about our
special case study and BYU is getting e-mail from others who are asking if
their families can be run as a special case.
Understand that we are very fortunate that they allowed us to do this. But
the special case studies are just a minor part of their much larger global
project and they do not have the resources to run a bunch of these special
cases. We were accepted because of the vast connections we have with Wells
researchers around the world and the depth of excellent research that many
of you have done over the years.
Please try not to discuss the project with others either outside of the
collection events and particularly at the events. If you are asked, just
tell them that you are part of a special case study being used to validate
the DNA matching for the primary project. Don't get into any details.
Yes, it is an exciting project and we hope to learn a lot from it. I
believe BYU will learn a lot from our project. We do not want to cause
them to be overwhelmed by others who hear of this project. For one thing
the people asking for this have no clue about what they are asking. If
they had any inkling of the effort they would have to put in to do anything
approaching what we are trying they would flee in terror. I am convinced
that if my wife ever finds out what I am up to, you may never hear from ME
again <g>
So, please be happy we are able to do this but do not spread it around lest
we spoil a good thing. This is also why I have asked all of you to
seriously consider contributing to the Molecular Genealogy Project when you
give for the Wells study. It is our way of helping their project out. I
really expect we will contribute more than 1% to their overall project.
That is pretty significant. When the time comes for you to participate, do
not hesitate to bring in your husband or wife or a friend for whom you can
come up with the 4-generation chart. We want to help BYU out as much as
possible in this effort.
