I would like to have copies of any source material you may have, including
Census data.
Do you have any information on the Shepherd and Johnson lines? It apears
that Jacob's wife Joannah Shepherd was a sister to ELIZABETH SHEPARD who
married Jacob's brother; Robert Lee Wells.
Will share info.

Hello,
My name is Andrew J. Weyer. I am a descendant of Jacob Wells son of
Zachariah Wells. I have recently joined this mailing list and would like
to
introduce myself by listing what I know of Jacob. I have gone through
all
870
previous postings on this site and I noticed that no one has posted
this
information.
My lineage goes:
Zachariah Wells - Abigail Osborne
Jacob Wells (1793 - 1850s) - Joannah Shepherd (1798-1869)
James Wells (1813 - ) - Unknown
Louisa Wells (1843 - 1914) - William Haney (1841 - 1911)
Thomas A. Haney (1867 - 1905) - Sylvia Johnson (1875 - 1944)
Ernest W. Haney (1896 - 1968) Myrtle H. Elberson (1898 - 1973)
Mildred R. Haney - Charles C. Weyer Sr.
Andrew J. Weyer
Jacob lived in Lee County, Virginia until the late 1820s. He then
moved
either with his father-in-law, James Pendleton Shephard, when he
moved to
Jackson County, Missouri or Jacob moved shortly after his father-in-law
did.
In 1830 and 1840 Jacob is listed in the Jackson County, Missouri
censuses.
By
1850 Jacob move about 60 miles north into Andrew County, Missouri.
Jacob
died
in the 1850s because in the 1860 Andrew County census Joannah is
listed as
the head of household. During the Civil War this family had to leave
Andrew
County because of the state of caos that existed in this part of
Missouri
during the Civil War. After the Civil War only my ancestor James and the
widow of his brother, Davidson, returned to Andrew County, Missouri. For
years I have been looking for what happened to the rest of the family and
just recently found them in Taylor County, Iowa which is just across the
state line from Missouri. The list of children that I include next comes
from
census records and from tombstone inscriptions found in the Siam
cemetery
in
Taylor County, Iowa.
1. James Wells (1813 - ) md. Sarah Johnson (1827 - ) (note:
Sarah
and James got married 10 Jan 1847 in Andrew County, Missouri. My
great
great
grandmother was born in 1843 according to her death certificate. On
this
certificate it lists her parents as Wells and Johnson. My best guess is
that
James was married before and I have not been able to find his first
wife.
This would also help explain the 14 year difference in age between James
and
Sarah Johnson. Birth before marriage happened even then and adoption
could
also be an option but then that would make this all moot because I would
not
be a descendant of Zachariah).
2. John Wells (1815 - 1886) never married
3. Rachel Wells(1817 - )
4. Isaac Wells (1819 - 1893)
5. Henderson Wells (1821 - 1894)
6. Davidson Wells (1823 - 1860s) married Elizabeth Johnson
7. Enoch Wells (1826 - 1882)
8. Nancy Wells (1829 - )
9. William Wells (1831 - )
10. Sarah J. Wells (1833 - )
11. Elizabeth Wells (1844 - ) The gap in ages between Sarah and
Elizabeth makes me question for sure whether Elizabeth is a daughter,
although at 46 Joannah could easily still be the mother.
I have the 1820 - 1880 censuses for this family and if anyone would
like
for me to post them I would be glad to. I realize that a lot of
research
needs to be done in Missouri on this family and I intend to do this. In
fact
I grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri which is between Jackson and
Andrew
Counties, Missouri and my parents still live there. I now live in Maryland
and I don't get back there as often as I wish. When there between spending
time with my parents and keeping my own family entertained it doesn't
leave
me much time for "rooting". Next time I am there I will
spend it on this
branch of my family and try to pick up the missing information.
If anyone has any questions I would be glad to answer.
Andy
