John,
Please add me you to your list. I spent about 5 years trying to solve this mystery in the late 90s. In 2002 I wrote my theory on why the three Wells branches with the same DNA were descended from Thomas Wells of Prince George's County and posted it on the Wells rootsweb site.. I met some resistance at first but everyone got on board after a while. I was not the first who came up with that theory, I was just the first to recognize what the DNA samples meant. After a 10 year hiatus I am becoming interested in the subject again. My latest area of interest is the closeness of Zachariah Wells to Nathan Ward and his children. I believe the answer lies in North Carolina even to the extent that Zachariah Wells might be the same Zachariah Ward that goes missing from the records in 1773. I know it is a pretty wild idea but even the distinguished Wells researcher, Orin Wells, told me I was wrong when I said Zachariah Wells was a descendant of Thomas Wells of Prince Georges County. I have several boxes of research done on the Wells in the state archives of Maryland and Virginia. I would be glad to contribute what I know to the conversation.

Are there any descendants of Zachariah Wells of Lee County, Virginia, active on this board right now? I would like to start a conversation about his ancestry. Note that his male Wells descendants are members of Wells Group W006 at www.familytreedna.com. I believe that Zachariah was the grandson of Robert Wells, born 1693 Prince George's County, MD - died c.1771 Frederick County, MD) and his wife Ann (Lackland) or of Robert's brother Joseph who settled in Orange County, NC. I do not believe he was the Revolutionary War veteran who applied for a pension while living in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Any takers? John B.
