VENICE, FLA. - Robert L. Zabel Sr., 82, retired owner of The W.C. Zabel Company, passed
away Sunday, May 1, at Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. Zabel was born June 12, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Arthur H. and Helen (Hogue)
Zabel.
He was a 1946 graduate of South High School, and after attending The Ohio State
University, he joined his father in the restaurant equipment supply business.
He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 as a Corporal with
the Artillery Units stationed in Germany.
"Bob" was one of the first members of the Boardman Swim Club, a past president
of the Kiwanis Club, a former member of Fonderlac Country Club and Waterford Golf Club in
Venice. He also enjoyed participating in Boardman baseball activities as a former Little
League coach and field operations volunteer, as well as his membership at Doc's Round
Table on Turner Road in Canfield, Ohio.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Jeanne
(Quinlan), who passed away Feb. 14, 2009, and whom he married Dec. 19, 1951.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Chris (Jim) Lowe of Venice; his son, Lee
(Terri) Zabel of Sarasota; a brother, Art (Marge) Zabel of Canfield, Ohio; his
grandchildren, Tara (Scott) Evans, Rob (Nicole) Zabel, Andy Zabel, Cara, Jimmy and Bob
DeCapua and Zack Lowe; his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler and Brady Evans, and Rocco
Zabel; and many nieces and nephews who will enjoy his stories forever.
Private arrangements are being handled by the Jennings Funeral Home in Sarasota, and
Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Boardman

525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
