Hi
I am new to this list. I believe that some of my HARRINGTON ancestors,
originating from somewhere in County Cork, Ireland, may have settled in
Swansea in the 19th Century.
I am posting my interests to the list in case anyone can help.
My great grandfather was a Dennis/Denis Harrington born about 1820 to 1830.
He died before 1877, do not know where or when. He was a bricklayer's
labourer.
Among his children, (or even his only child) was my great Grandfather John
Harrington, born Co Cork, Ireland in about 1852.
He married a Catherine Caton in 1877 in Peckham, London. They were RC.
He was a bricklayers labourer at the time of his marriage.
John and Catherine had several children;-
Timothy born 1883
Edward John ( my grandfather) born 1884
Daniel born 1885
Ellen born 1888
Dennis Duchie born 1891
Catherine born 1893
William born 1895
All these children were born in Epsom Surrey or Lewisham, London.
Daniel and Dennis Duchie were killed in WW1.
John Harrington died aged 44 in April 1897. At the time of his death he was
living, with his family, at Summerfield St., Lee, Lewisham, London.
I have reason to believe that he may have had relatives in the Swansea area.
It is possible that the family were miners from the mines in west Cork.
Do any of these names mean anything to anyone on the list please?
I would love to hear from those researching Harrington in the Swansea area.
TIA
Pat Kelly
