Hello, I tried to help my sister in law locate her natural Grandfather's
family some time ago.
I wondered if there was a list of Licensed Victuallers kept.
I understand that the licence had to be granted by a Magistrate and hoped
that there may be a list somewhere. I also thought that possibly an old electoral
register might help.
I am trying to locate a William Smith who at the time of his sons marriage in
Swansea was a licensed victualler.
Williams Smith's son was a Frederick Smith. We do not know where he was born.
He was the natural grandfather of my sister in law.
Frederick Smith married Polly Elizabeth Moss in 1914. At that time he gave
his Father as William Smith a Licensed Victualler. Frederick Smith was an
Engineer shipper fuel works Swansea.
In 1916 during WW1 he was a Mine Sweeper Shipper Fuel Works.
William Smith was supposed to have been Landlord of a pub around Swansea St
Thomas.
Does anyone go into the Records Office in Swansea. If so I would be most
grateful if they could make enquiries for me.
sincerely, Jacqui White
Dear Jacqui.
Some time since we last corresponded, I see you are still on the trail.
Here is the link of Swansea Reference Library which will answer your queries
with the Electoral Roll registers kept:
