Allen - Roberts - Scotland - Connecticut, USA - Wales - India - Canada
Researching the Allen family: James and Robert who migrated from Scotland (possibly
Selkirk) to Hartford, Connecticut, USA about 1635 more or less. One brother stayed in
Conn., while the other returned and settled on a farm near Swansea. (Which one, we know
not!) The farm remained in the Allen family for about 200 years, passing by marriage to
the Roberts name. 1800's, a Charles Allen lived his early and later life in Cardiff,
the middle part in Bristol. He had two marriages. We have no names of his wives but know
that his children by his first marriage were Isaac and Mary; those by his second John, and
two daughters. John went to Australia, had two daughters, and died there. Isaac Allen
was born in 1831 (we don't know if in Wales or England), and at 14 apprenticed to the
brass finishing trade in Bristol where he stayed for 7 years. He went to the US in 1853,
then to India as a missionary for the British Baptist Missionary Society probably about
1863 as a teacher. !
Of his children, one was Alice, who settled here in Whaletown, British Columbia, Canada.
And we're still here - 6 generations later! We wonder if anyone knows of those Allens
in Swansea, and how they connected with the Roberts. Cheers. Sue
