Hello,
I am trying to trace my grandfather's time as a POW in WWI. He was John
Bodycombe who was born in Llansamlet in 1889. He was a member of the 9th
Battalion of the Welsh Regiment taken prisoner on 30th May 1918.
The List of British Officers taken prisoner in the various Theatres of War
between August 1914 and November 1918, compiled in 1919 by the military
agents Cox and Co., the following are listed as POWs of the 9th Battalion of
the Welsh Regiment:
Missing Repatriated
Lt. E. Emblem 23/03/1918 29/11/1918
2/Lt. H. W. Thompson 25/03/1918 13/12/1918
Major E. W. Broakes 30/05/1918 -/12/1918
Capt. T. Sugrue 30/05/1918 01/01/1919
Capt. D. H. Thomas 30/05/1918 01/01/1919
Lieut. F. M. St. H. Evans 30/05/1918 14/12/1918
2/Lt. J. Bodycombe 30/05/1918 16/01/1919
2/Lt. J. Evans 30/05/1918 17/12/1918
2/Lt. T. E. Noble 30/05/1918 31/12/1918
2/Lt. G. Williams 30/05/1918 30/12/1918
My grandfather's service record was "weeded" in 1934, and so there is no
report on his time as a POW. I would be interested in hearing from anyone
researching any of the above named soldiers, particularly relating to their
time as a POW.
Regards
Stephen Edwards
