Hello Hazel.If you could give me some clues as to the origins of Your
MATTHEWS Family please?You mentioned some marriages in the 1890's?Do you
have the census entries,to see where the MATTHEWS were born?
My connections are thus:-
Marriage at Oystermouth on the 28th;June 1767.Samuel MATTHEW,a "Yeoman"of
Cadoxton,married to Sarah SAMBROOK a spinster of Oystermouth.Witnesses:-
David BOWEN & Richard TOVEY.[poss;Parish Clerk]
The above Samuel MATTHEW died in 1780 aged 40 years at Oystermouth.
Sarah died in 1836 aged 101 years.Both are buried at Oystermouth Cemetary
grave # 2/28.
The above Samuel MATTHEW was a "Witness" to my 5 x great,grandparents -John
SAMBROOK & his wife Mary JENKIN's "Wedding" on the 10th;June 1769 at
Oystermouth.
Samuel & Sarah MATTHEW[S]had these:-
Elizabeth b.1768 marr;1794 to Michael JOHN of/at Oystermouth.And had issue.
Sarah 1771-1861, died aged 91 unmarried at Oystermouth.
Samuel 1773- nothing further known.
Hannah b.1776.She married Michael CORKERAN at Oystermouth in 1797.Their
daughter Catherine, was the first wife of Thomas HOWELL, whom she married at
Oystermouth in 1828.Thomas's second wife was my
Great,Great,Great,Grandmother Ann GRIFFITHS,widow.[Maiden Name
MICHAEL,1803-1891+].
The only other child of Samuel & Sarah Ive found is William MATTHEW[S]born
in 1778 at Oystermouth.
