Hello
This, I believe, is my first post to the Swansea list. Permit me to now
share a message I've posted today to some other Welsh lists.
A recent message exchange that appeared in another Welch list, triggers
me to once again make a plea to anybody who might have a missing
Thomas William Davies in their family tree. I'm still searching for my
GGrandfather of this name said to be born in Wales in 1824 and who
first appears in Canada in September 1852 being married to a local
girl in a Wesleyan Methodist ceremony in Wallaceburg, Ontario [then
Canada West] County of Kent.
Here is my Thomas William's children, all Canadian born beginning in
1854:
Albert John
Sarah Elizabeth
Rachael Ann
Lydia A. [probably Alice for her mother]
An unnamed Baby Davies
Daniel Ross
Frederick William
I sure would like to hear from reader who has any notion whatsoever
of from where in Wales, and from what family, he came? I have tried
to find him in the sparse passenger records that exist for that era but
without success. Being British born he also was automatically deemed
a Canadian citizen at that time and was not required to declare his birth
details [country aside] nor his parental names, etc. Most passenger
lists of arrivals to Canada prior to 1865, no longer exist.
I realize I'm shooting from the hip and am lacking a firm Canadian clue.
Regardless, perhaps some reader may connect my Thomas William
Davies. All suggestions or clues, will be welcome.
Oh yes, he is found as a tailor in Dresden, ON at one point teaming
up with his eldest son also a tailor, before he headed west in '82 to
try his hand at homesteading on the pioneer Canadian prairies.
Thanks all.
