Hello Jeannette
J T BALL's widow lived at 5 Finsbury Terrace, Brynmill in the years before
WW1. Her niece Laura JONES went to live with her aunt during WW1. This much
is clear from correspondence from the niece to a young Frenchman with whom
she had a romantic attachment before he returned to France to do military
service. He died in WW1. The Frenchman's nephew has been researching the
lives of three of his uncles ( all killed in the great war) who worked for a
while in Port Talbot and socialised in Swansea. If you have anything at all
on what happened to Mary Ann BALL nee JAMES or any of her relatives after
WW1 that might lead to further addresses or contacts that could be useful.
I met the nephew in Swansea Central library a few months ago. He is in his
late 70s or maybe 80s, and there is a specific reason why he wants to find
out what happened to Laura JONES and her cousin (also confusingly called
Laura JONES) in later years. I have done a lot of backward research with
censuses and BMDs but it is harder to move forward.
A long shot, but faint chance of something. 'Aunt Ball' seems to have been a
significant character in the story.
Best regards
Jeff

Subject: Re: [WLS-SWANSEA] BALL family of potters
Hello Jeff,
Thank you so much for your reply. I did not know about the Cambrian online
index and I can see that it is going to be a treasure-trove for me.
I do have John Thomas Ball in my tree. He was one of Eli's children by his
first wife (I am descended from the second marriage). According to the
census returns, he was a master mariner, turned grocer, turned publican.
How might I be able to help?
Regards
Jeannette
