In reply to the suggestions from Jeff Coleman, the husband's surname
definitely is BADDER and his life was very much based in Bristol; see my
notes for Thomas BADDER, as pasted in below. As will be seen, the
information is confirmed by at least one birth certificate and one death
certificate.
"1856: described on daughter Flora Jane BADDER's January birth certificate
as an Accountant's Clerk.
1861: the census lists him as an auctioneer's clerk living with his family
including daughter Flora.
1871: the census shows Thomas BADDER and his family living at 11 Freemantle
Place, St. James & St. Paul's, in Bristol. He is described as 56 and an
Accountant's Clerk, born in Bristol St James. Others listed in the
household are: his wife Mary (39), born in Swansea, and children as
follows:- Tom, 16; Flora I, 15; Charles H, 13; Henry I, 11; and Frank D, 5.
All children are listed as having been born in Bristol, except Henry I, who
is shown as having been born in Cardiff, Glamorgan.
1877: he is described as an Auctioneer on his daughter Flora's August
marriage certificate.
1878:
August 7, registration of his death, aged 64. Described on death
certificate as a retired auctioneer, who died of "Mitral Disease -
Pulmonary Apoplexy"; the death was reported by son, HL Badder - "present at
the death".
(Centrally: September quarter; district: BARTON REGIS Vol 6a p 48; death
certificate ordered 01viii2004 from ONS - received).
August 9:
Buried in Lewins Mead Burial Ground, Brunswick Square, Bristol (at 27 Long
Row, 65 ft from North wall). Buried by James Stoak: £2.12s.6d
Source: Bristol Record Office e-mail 29 June 2004 - entry for "burial
Thomas Badder 1878" [this last information passed on by cousin J C]."
I have subsequently found that son Frank married in Cardiff (a lady calld
Dora VARDOE) in 1897.
Maybe I should look next for the birth in Cardiff in approx 1859-60 of
their son Henry BADDER.
That may produce a clue or two.

Hi Tony
The BADDER family were not in Glamorgan for 1861 census.
I cannot see Thomas in 1851 Bristol census. Is there a possibility that
the surname might have been something less uncommon, like BADGER or
BADER or BIDDER ?
In 1851 at 21 Wellington Street, Swansea there was an Ann BADDER aged 62,
grocers widow, b Swansea, with her daughter Mary FLAGAN, bonnet maker,
married, also b Swansea
A Thomas BIDDER ,27, married, carpenter, b Bristol, was in lodgings in
Resolven with various rail labourers in 1851
