Hi Caroline:
I'm sorry I can't help you to untangle your JAMES/JOHN families.
However, I also have a JAMES from Llangyfelach. These are the few details I
have:
When Rebecca JAMES, the daughter of David JAMES an Agent, married David
Lloyd NICHOLAS in 1847 they were both living in the Parish of Llangafelach.
She in Ynispenllwch and he in Clydach. Aged about 28 she was three or
four years older than her bridegroom.
Sometime during Rebecca's 13 years of married life her little family moved
to Hafod Terrace, St. Johns, Swansea.
Rebecca bore five or six children. [There is some doubt as to whether they
had two or three sons.] Sadly, the boys all died in infancy, Henry may have
been as old as 2. Rebecca never seemed to recover from the birth of her
baby Emma. She died in 1860 at the age of 41, cause of death 'Phthesis 5
months'-Baby Emma was five months old.
Rebecca was the first wife of my g-grandfather David Lloyd NICHOLAS. I am
descended from his second family but I have quite a lot of details for the
children of Rebecca. This MAY be Rebecca in 1841

My JAMES family married into different JOHN families at various times
and
I'm trying to untangle them and would appreciate help with this.
1) I'm trying to find the parents of my g g grandfather, JOHN JOHN who
was born in 1819, probably in LLANGYFELACH. He Married a MARY and I don't
know her maiden name.
2) My g grandfather, THOMAS JAMES was born in LLANGYFELACH in 1842 and
married MARGARET JOHN who was born in LLANGYFELACH in 1843. I'm trying to
find out who their parents were. I don't think MARGARET was from the same
JOHN family as JOHN JOHN above but I'm not sure.
3) In the 1871 Census THOMAS and MARGARET JAMES were living next door
to a DAVIES family in LLANGYFELACH. My grandfather's name was WILLIAM
DAVIES JAMES and I'm trying to find out what the DAVIES connection is. (To
complicate matters further, my grandfather, WILLIAM JAMES married CHARLOTTE
JOHN, daughter of THOMAS JOHN and granddaughter of JOHN JOHN above)
Confused? I am! Any help welcome.
Thanks
Caroline
