Judy
I had a look at a copy of their Wedding Registration at our local archive
department.
The extra details are:
James and Eliza age given as "of full age"
James address given as "3 Portham Tce." (I'll see if I can find out were
this was)
Eliza as "Govan, city of Glasgow"
James father name given as "James" and occupation "Contractor"
Eliza father name given as "James Taylor" and occupation, looks like "
Cotton Weaver" ?
They were married in the presence of:
William Brenton
Thomas Randles

Rob,
I can only guess - but I am very glad they did marry twice as civil
registration in Scotland started later.
People sometimes still have 2 ceremonies when the families belong to
different churches, though I guess only one is official.
However I think in this case it might just have been the distance apart
of the two families - assuming that Eliza's family lived in Glasgow,
and James family was in Swansea....
But right now I know nothing about this couple, neither the 1851
England and Wales census nor the Scottish 1861 have any "easy" matches
Do you have any idea what a job description of "agent" with no
qualifiers might indicate? It is the same on his son's birth
certificate.
Thank you again
Judy

Hi Judy
Why do you think they married twice ?.
I always thought that being married once was enough.
