Rob
Thank you for looking this up, that saves me sending for the
certificate!
Cotton Weaver seems to be good fit for Govan, before they put in the
shipyards.
In 1848 the residence is stated as "Clifton" on a birth cerificate. I
understand this is probably in the area of present day Clifton Hill ,
and was mostly cleared in a slum clearance in the 1870s, so if Portham
Tce is in this same area I guess it is long gone.
Thank you for all your work
Judy

I had a look at a copy of their Wedding Registration at our local
archive
department.
The extra details are:
James and Eliza age given as "of full age"
James address given as "3 Portham Tce." (I'll see if I can find out
were
this was)
Eliza as "Govan, city of Glasgow"
James father name given as "James" and occupation "Contractor"
Eliza father name given as "James Taylor" and occupation, looks like "
Cotton Weaver" ?
They were married in the presence of:
William Brenton
Thomas Randles
